Effective 2024-07-01, Seequent will introduce updated Annual Maintenance policies for GeoStudio products.

From this date, GeoStudio perpetual licenses that are not current on maintenance will become machine-locked to the computer or server where the software is installed.

This means they cannot be moved to another device or restored to the current device in the event of, but not limited to, software failure, virtual machine re-hosting, formatted hard drive and so forth.

This article will demonstrate how to access the different license systems available to GeoStudio.

Access License Management

In GeoStudio, managing your license options happens in the License Management dialog box.

 

In GeoStudio 2022.1 and later, the License Management dialog box is accessed from the User Profile menu.  The User Profile menu is locate at the top right, separate from the traditional menu options:

 

In GeoStudio 2021.4 and earlier, the License Management dialog box is accessed from the Help menu:

 

License Systems

GeoStudio license entitlements are available from three different license systems:

  • FlexNet
    • This is the legacy license system in GeoStudio and is available from GeoStudio 2004 up to our current version. 
    • They can work alongside Seequent ID licenses.
    • They can support subscription and perpetual licenses.
  • Seequent ID
    • This license system was introduced in GeoStudio 2021 R2. 
    • They can work alongside FlexNet licenses.
    • They are cloud-based licenses that require internet access.
    • They only support subscription licenses.
  • Bentley SES
    • This license system was introduced in GeoStudio 2022.1.
    • They do not work alongside any other license system .
    • They are cloud-based licenses that require internet access.
    • Currently, they only support Bentley E365 Enterprise license accounts.
    • Future versions of GeoStudio will support other Bentley account types.

 

Changing Between License Systems

If you are using GeoStudio 2021.4 and earlier, there is no need to switch between license systems.  The need to specify / switch was introduced in GeoStudio 2022.1 with the addition of the Bentley SES license system.

 

To switch between license providers:

  • Launch your version of GeoStudio that supports License System changing.
  • The top-right menu option is the User Profile menu.
  • Click on the User Profile menu and select "Change License System...".
  • Available license systems will be displayed.
  • Select the method you would like to switch to and click the Next button:
  • Follow the prompts to continue in your chosen license system.
