This article demonstrates how to recover missing user interface (UI) elements in GeoStudio.

Cause

  • The screen coordinates of GeoStudio UI elements are recorded in the Registry.
  • If your display setting change significantly, these coordinates may no longer be valid.
  • Significant changes include (among others):
    • A different display configuration (accessing the computer via remote desktop).
    • Changing the display resolution.
    • Changing the number or orders of displays.
    • Accidentally disabling or moving UI elements off-screen.

Before You Start

  • This article assumes you are using the latest version of GeoStudio.

Steps to Resolve

  1. The GeoStudio 'Window' menu contains a command to reset the program to the default window layout.
  2. If the menu bar is the missing UI element, the steps can be performed with the keyboard shortcuts.
  3. Launch GeoStudio normally.
  4. Open the 'Window' menu (shortcut: Alt + W).
  5. Select 'Reset Window Layout' (shortcut: E).
  6. You will then be asked if you want to reset to the default window layout:
  7. Click on 'Yes'.
  8. GeoStudio UI elements will be restored.

Things to Consider

  • Older versions of GeoStudio may use different keyboard shortcuts.
  • If the shortcuts listed above do not work, try Alt + W  followed by S.
