Error: GeoStudio: System clock has been set back. (Error -88,309)

You start GeoStudio in a fully licensed mode and receive the following error message:

Error: GeoStudio: System clock has been set back. (Error -88,309)

There are files present on the computer that are dated past today's date. This can be caused by modifying the calendar, which leaves a time 'footprint' of changed operating system file dates, or from shared files from other users. The FLEXnet software, being sensitive to such changes for security reasons, senses these forward-dated files and regards them as a security breach, giving you the "System clock has been set back" error.

Locate files that are dated into the future and change the date.  There are several shareware programs available that will assist you in changing the file and folder dates.

One such program is called Attribute Changer, which can be downloaded from https://download.cnet.com/Attribute-Changer/3000-2248_4-13676.html.  GEOSLOPE does not specifically endorse any third party utility program.  We encourage you to explore your options and find a utility or other solution that is right for your operating environment.

To locate forward-dated files:

  1. Open Windows Explorer, click on the Tools Menu, Folder Options, View tab.
  2. Check "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives".
  3. Uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files".
  4. Click on Apply and Ok.
  5. Click on "Computer" in the tree view in the left-hand pane.
  6. Click in the "Search" field at the top of the Windows Explorer window.
  7. Type "modified:" followed by today's date, two dots, and a date several years into the future. E.g., "modified:02/06/2010 .. 02/06/2099"
