A GeoStudio license that requires a USB key (also known as a dongle) is referred to as a "Certificate License". Certificate licenses require two components:
- A host ID.
- A license file.
The physical USB key contains the host ID.
If the key is being recognized by your computer, the red light on the key will illuminate.
If the key is not illuminated, refer to the article about a USB Key not being recognized. If your key is recognized but the license isn't found, keep reading.
When GeoStudio recognizes a host ID, it looks for an accompanying license file.
Even if a GeoStudio license is perpetual, the data in the license file expires annually as a security measure. New license files are generated 60 days before a license file is set to expire. If your computer has an internet connection, GeoStudio will automatically check for updated license files.
If your USB key is attached to the computer and the red light is illuminated, but GeoStudio still cannot find a license, there may be a problem with the license file.
The first thing to do is ensure you have GeoStudio in the correct license mode.
After you confirm you are in the correct license mode, check the location where the license files are stored.
- Launch GeoStudio.
- Go to the Help | License Management menu.
- From the pane on the left, select Local Settings.
You should now see the following dialog box:
The license path is specified at the top. Ensure that this is a valid location on your hard drive. If you need to modify the path, click on the Edit Settings button and then make any necessary modification.
Once you have verified the path, click on the Update button. This will attempt to download the latest license file for your USB key.
If that doesn't work, you may need to manually download the license file and place it in the license path folder. To download your license file, go to the following page on our website:
On this page you can either enter in your serial number(s) or host ID(s). You will then receive a list of the licenses associated with the serial numbers or host IDs. That list will also include a link to download the latest license file.
After downloading the license file(s), put it(them) in the folder indicated by your license path and re-start GeoStudio. Your license(s) should now be available for use.
