In this article we explain error message:
Failed: 7189; Client activation is not allowed to activate: (license number). Check the license model to make sure a client can activate.
Cause
This error message indicates the license type does not match the platform you are trying to activate it on.
For example:
- You are trying to activate a network license directly in the GeoStudio client instead of the license manager.
- You are trying to activate a standalone license on a network license manager instead of the GeoStudio client.
Steps to Resolve
- Determine what type of license you have by entering your serial number(s) here:

- Network license, activate it using the lmadmin license manager.
